Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine are naturally occurring herbs that have been dried and packaged ready for use in treatment. It has been used for over 3000 years in China to successfully treat a huge variety of diseases and disorders. There are thousands of types of herbal medicine and these can be used on their own but more often in combination to produce a tailor made blend of herbs for your individual needs.

As the herbs are naturally occurring and are subjected to minimal processing, herbal medicine is almost 100% natural. The majority of herbal medicines have much less side effects than Western medicine we used every day in hospitals.

Why do I need herbal medicine?

Traditional Chinese medicine aims to help sooth symptoms and cure diseases with natural ingredients that have lesser side effects than conventional western medicine. It is also tailored specifically to your individual needs and can be used to treat more than one problem at a time.

For many diseases and disorders, western medicine does not have sufficient treatments that work, or the best treatments available have strong side effects. Therefore traditional Chinese medicine can be an excellent alternative or supplement to conventional medical treatments.

Disorders that are commonly helped by herbal medicine include:

Skin diseases (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, recurrent hives)

Neurological disorders (tremors, tinnitus, headaches, dizziness)

Gynaecological (infertility, menopausal symptoms, menstrual pain, heavy periods)

Abdominal symptoms (bloating, constipation, IBS, chronic diarrhoea)

Chronic fatigue

Stress

What should I expect from Herbal Medicine Treatment?

When you are prescribed herbal medicine, it will done at a face-face consultation where we will explain what the medicine does, and how to prepare it. You will have as much time as you need during the consultation to ask questions with your herbal medicine practitioner.

In general for most herbal medicine prescriptions: you will receive packed herbal medicine by post and this can be used for 1-4 weeks depending individual conditions. Each dose of herbal medicine is self contained in a small porous pack.

The pack is like a tea bag, and all you need to do is brew the pack in a tea pot of hot water for between 2-5 minutes. It is just like making normal tea expect you do not add milk and you will need to drink all the liquid yourself. Usually you will need to brew and drink this “tea” 1-2 times per day for several weeks. You will need to see your herbal medicine practitioner every 1-2 weeks to review the effects and make dose adjustments.

The exact details, including brewing time and doses to take per day will be explained during your personal consultation.
